HONOUR YOUR PARENTS

Deuteronomy 5:16  Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Ephesians 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs 6:20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs 30:17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Leviticus 19:3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.

Deu 21:18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: 19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; 20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. 

HONOUR

To honour is to give high respect or to render great esteem to someone.

If God said we should honour our father and mother, it means we must give them high respect and hold them in high esteem.

There is no honour where there is pride, disobedience, and stubbornness.

If you truly honour somebody, you will love him or her. Honour, love and cherishing go hand in hand.

Where there is honour, there is fear, love, respect, obedience and appreciation. Our fathers and mothers may be our biological or spiritual the same laws apply to them.

In these days of social media, how can we show our honour?

1. By regular calling to greet and appreciate
2. We must give things to them, especially money on regular basis even when they do not lack anything, remember that there is no love without giving

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

• By giving regular visits, know that calling on phone or WhatsApp will not replace regular visits because they easily feel lonely
• By using every means to demonstrate and show our sincere love to them.

ENEMIES ON THE WAY ARE –

• Excuses, I am busy
• I don’t have something worthy to give to them
• They are far away from me
• They do not understand me
• They are too hard on me

Remember that no excuse is attainable.

IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE

• Your biological parents
• Those who led you to Ghrist
• Those who brought you up in Christ
• Those who maintain you in Ghrist.

BLESSINGS

Deuteronomy 5:16  Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

When you play your part, for your fathers and mothers, the blessings will come from God and they are

• Long life
• Prosperity

According to the word of God, your parents are not the one to give you those blessings but God who we are obeying by honoring our fathers and mothers.

Remember you will become one very soon

Isa 1:19  If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:20  But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
