VICTORY OVER THE BATTLES OF LIFE
Every human being has battles. Even the baby Jesus was to be killed by Herod. We all have battles.
God is the Lord of Host and a such, there is no battle He cannot conquer.
Psalms 60:12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
This Psalm was written after a battle. So David could talk with confidence. Victory will come through God. When we look at problems, we will be afraid but when we look at God, our victory is secured
Psa 118:10 All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. 11 They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. 12 They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
If David had confidence that all nations could be defeated, you and I do not have nations against us.
If David would confront all nations because of God, then we can also have victory over and over again.
1 Samuel 17:32 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
Goliath had been boasting and bragging over all the Israelites.
If David could boldly decide to fight Goliath then you and I can challenge the enemies of our lives.
David did not allow the discouragement of Saul to hinder him so, we must not listen to anybody.
1Sa 17:34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. 37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
David allowed his former testimonies to encourage him to challenge the Philistine. We must allow our past small testimonies to encourage us to challenge the enemies and conquer.
1Sa 17:41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. 43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
With all weapon, armour, strength and experience, he still depended on his gods.
David Did Not Fear Him.
1Sa 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.
David knew his God and because of that he was bold.
If the Old Testament people could be bold and win battles, we of the New Testament must have boldness and know the power that we had been given.
Psa 18:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. 5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
You can read this whole Psalm and see that David really knew God. His knowledge of God gave him the boldness, confidence and eventually victory.
David cried to the Lord and God answered him. So if we will cry to Him now, He will answer us.
